FPCL were requested to design a bespoke fire protection enclosure. It is known as a Hot Damper Interface Enclosure (HDIE).
The HDIE was required to house the customers electrics for their fire damper control system. A fire damper must close in the event of a fire so it was vital that this element is fire protected.
These are required to operate up to 300 degrees Celsius for 120 minutes or 400 degrees Celsius for 30 minutes.
FPCL designed and developed a suitable enclosure and a prototype box was supplied for fire testing.
When the HDIE was fire tested it passed for both time periods keeping the critical devices inside below the critical failure failure temperatures.
HDIE uses layers of advanced cooling thermal control materials, high insulation barriers and unique intumescent materials providing exceptional resistance. During testing, the coating expands up to 50 times its volume, creating a dense char which protects the enclosure.
The boxes will fit a range of the customers damper interfaces making the product as versatile as possible.
Advantages of HDIE
FPCL used its expertise and knowledge to create this bespoke enclosure / box using a mix of products to ensure the customers exact fire protection requirements were met.
